The ISO facilitates the strengthening of its partner fisherfolk organizations (FOs) in Siruma. Capacity-building activities were conducted for the development and enhancement of their knowledge, skills and attitude on mangrove forest rehabilitation and protection. Through the active participation of FO members and the youth, mangrove out-planting and surveillance activities were successfully conducted. As of 2018, around 97 hectares of mangrove areas in Siruma has been reforested with community-based nursery-grown seedlings. To ensure the sustainability of these initiatives, the ISO has been supporting the Siruma Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC) in lobbying local policies for mangrove and fisheries protection. IEC campaigns were also conducted to increase the awareness of the youth of the Camarines provinces in mangrove protection and conservation.
